Junior League Purchases $80,000 of School Supplies for Local Students

Stuff the Bus, the signature project of The Junior League of Bryan-College Station, Inc. (JLBCS), brought in more than 40,000 school supply items to benefit children in both the Bryan and College Station independent school districts. This year’s numbers exceed 2017 Stuff the Bus donations by 13,000 items.

During the five day drive, held August 6 through August 10 at a variety of community businesses, approximately $8,000 in monetary donations were collected to help fund the project again next year, in addition to all of the supply donations.

“The amount of community support for Stuff the Bus is tremendous, and we are so thankful for everyone who came out and donated, our community partners, and our amazing sponsors.” Said Sarah Schlabach, 2018-2019 JLBCS President. “Being able to provide these essential tools for local children means that we are making an immediate impact in their lives, which is what our League always strives to do.”

Community members who donated were encouraged to nominate an elementary school from one, or both, districts to receive a $1,000 spirit grant at the conclusion of the drive. The two schools to receive the grant for 2018 are South Knoll Elementary in College Station and Bowen Elementary in Bryan. These funds can be used to fill any need that benefits the children of the school.

Stuff the Bus began in 2000, and has benefited over 200,000 local students during those 18 years.
