Dear Friends of the Junior League,
The upcoming year will mark the 30th anniversary of the Junior League of Bryan-College Station. We have so much to celebrate and to be thankful for. As we celebrate three decades of dedicated service, we must remember why we exist: To serve the children and youth of our community. We owe it to our sustaining members, current members and you, our community, to serve with a purpose and our mission in mind.
We’re so fortunate to live in a generous community. The fact that our league is growing so much each year is amazing. For those reasons and the hard work of our league ladies I’m happy to announce that we were able to add another community project this year. We will kick off our anniversary year with our Signature project, Stuff the Bus. Our projects that will exist simultaneously throughout the year will include: The Boys and Girls Club’s Book up Texas, Children’s museum-Helping Hands, Brazos Food Bank backpack program, George Bush Library docent program, Girl Scouts STEM conference, and Special Olympics-Texas Fall Classic. Our Opportunity Knocks will provide resources to programs in our community that share our same mission.
In 2010-2011, we donated over $140,000 to community projects along with over 10,000 volunteer hours. We serviced almost 15,000 students in our community with school supplies last year. The impact that our league makes in Bryan-College Station is possible because of our dedicated members and strong support from community. I would like to challenge you, our supporters, to come out and join us and help us continue our legacy of service. There are a variety of ways that you can support us. You can: become a sponsor, drop off school supplies at our school supply drive, join us for a spectacular evening in November at Charity Ball, donate gently used items to Bargain Blitz or participate in our Spring Fun Run. We look forward to seeing you all there!
I am honored and humbled to serve as President of this organization and to serve alongside such amazing women. I would like to express my gratitude and admiration to our sustaining members and supporters for your continued encouragement the past 30 years. We hope you are all proud of the work we have done to better our community. Now, more than ever it is important that we all come together as an organization and community to “Continue the Legacy” of dedicated service to the children and youth of Bryan-College Station.
Kind regards,
Lizett Hawkins, President
